Blood centerseeks donors

The Community Blood Center of the Ozarks strives for area blood reserves to be at around a three-day supply for all blood types. At the time of this release, the blood center reserves show a less than two-day supply of type O negative, B negative and A positive blood.

CBCO is proud that our donors may share their gift by giving a little extra through LifePoints Lift. Through the program, blood donors may dedicate their LifePoints, which can be redeemed for a number of gift cards and certificates, to one of ten Ozarks area charities. For the month of October, The Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks has been selected as CBCO's LifePoints Lift partner of the month.

Moving Dayis Oct. 21

The Parkinson's Foundation is hosting its annual Moving Day Northwest Arkansas, A Walk for Parkinson's, Oct. 21 at Pinnacle Hills Promenade Mall, one of more than 40 grassroots events taking place across the country this year. Funds raised through Moving Day will support cutting-edge research and community programs to improve the lives of people with Parkinson's disease and their families.

Since 2011, Moving Day events across the country have raised more than $18 million to improve care and advance research toward a cure. More than just a walk, Moving Day NWA is a celebration of movement featuring a kids' area, a caregivers' relaxation tent and a special Movement Pavilion with Rock Steady Boxing for Parkinson's, dance, Tai Chi, Pilates and other activities -- all proven to help manage Parkinson's symptoms.
