Water utility board seeks new member

Longtime Central Arkansas Water Commissioner Roby Robertson will retire from the utility's board after 14 years, creating a vacancy for a Little Rock resident.

Robertson's second seven-year term technically expired over the summer, but he will stay on until the position is filled.

The board plans to advertise the vacancy and accept resumes through December, interview candidates in January and swear in the new board member in February, after approval by the Little Rock and North Little Rock city governments. The utility's board decided on the schedule at its regular meeting Thursday.

The board has seven members: four Little Rock residents and three North Little Rock residents.

19th Street section to close temporarily

A section of 19th Street between South Taylor Street and Fair Park Boulevard will be closed to traffic for about four weeks, according to a notice from the city.

The closure will begin Monday at 9 a.m., according to the news release.

The section will be closed for improvements to the intersection of Fair Park Boulevard and 19th Street.

Motorists traveling in the area may take 18th Street or 20th Street as an alternate route during construction.

West Fifth Street renaming vote set

The Little Rock Board of Directors plans to rename a portion of West Fifth Street to West Capitol Avenue.

The section extends west from the 500 block of South Rodney Parham Road and includes a short stretch west of the intersection with Sunnymeade Drive. The section is referred to by both names in various documents, leading to confusion for emergency service providers and postal workers.

Two street signs would be updated to reflect the change, and mailing addresses for two properties would change.

The board will vote on whether to formalize the new name at its regular meeting on Tuesday.
