Authorities are investigating two separate homicides that occurred early Friday in central Arkansas.

The first happened shortly before 1:45 a.m. at the Oakridge Apartments at 6201 Mabelvale Cutoff in Little Rock, according to a release from the city's Police Department.

When they arrived, officers found 32-year-old Levon Sales Jr. dead from an apparent gunshot wound in the driveway of the apartment complex, the release states. His body was taken to the state Crime Lab for an autopsy.

No suspect was named and no arrest had been made at the time of the release.

The killing is the 27th reported in Arkansas' capital city this year.

A few hours later, authorities in Maumelle were called at 4:50 a.m. to a homicide on Kingspark Drive, according to an agency spokesman.

Capt. Jim Hansard said the victim was a 60-year-old man who has not yet been identified.

Investigators were at the scene Friday morning, but no arrest had been made, Hansard said.
