Lyon falls in 4 OT

Jacoby Hunt rushed for 111 yards on 12 carries and scored scored from 18 yards out in the fourth overtime to lift Wayland Baptist to a 49-43, four-overtime victory over Lyon College in Plainview, Texas, on Saturday.

Wayland Baptist's defense then held to preserve the victory and prevent a fifth overtime in the longest game played in Lyon College history.

Lyon took a 43-37 lead in the third overtime on a one-yard run by Titus Nelson, but Wayland Baptist came back as De'Sean Johnson scored from 14 yards out to tie the game.

The game was sent into overtime with a 24-yard field goal by Wayland Baptist's Edgar Baeza with 30 seconds left, which made the score 31-31. That was preceded by a 27-yard Lyon touchdown pass from Spencer Childress to Shaka Robinson, which gave Lyon a 31-28 lead.

Childress led Lyon by completing 20 of 41 passes for 3 touchdowns and rushing for 65 yards on 18 carries.

Lyon falls to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Wayland Baptist is now 2-3 and 1-3.

Hendrix loses in shootout

Birmingham-Southern outlasted Hendrix College 57-41 on Saturday in Birmingham, Ala., scoring 22 consecutive points in the second half.

Trailing 29-28 with 6:49 left in the third quarter, Kyler Jackson ran three yards for a touchdown with 3:03 left in the third quarter and Buddy Dowd caught the pass for the two-point conversion to put Birmingham-Southern up 36-28. Zack Seay ran four yards for a touchdown to make it 43-29 with 20 seconds left in the third quarter and Mike Benning caught a 55-yard touchdown pass from Trevor Oakes with 5:15 left in the game to make it 50-29.

After Michael Spainhour caught a 62-yard touchdown pass from Mason Doerr to get Hendrix to 50-35 with 4:53 left, Cole Marrell caught a 58-yard touchdown pass from Oakes to make it 57-35 with 3:16 left. Spainhour caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Doerr with 45 seconds left to finish the scoring.

The game featured 50 first downs by both teams, with Birmingham Southern holding a 27-23 edge. Birmingham-Southern had the edge in total offense (634-569), total plays (80-69) and time of possession (35:25-24:35).

Doerr completed 31 of 50 passes for 413 yards with 4 touchdowns and 1 interception for Hendrix (1-5, 0-4 Southern Athletic Association). Levi Jones rushed for 107 yards on 4 carries. Spainhour caught five passes for 104 yards and 2 touchdowns. Tyler Urban caught 5 passes for 90 yards and 1 touchdown and Isaiah Davison caught 4 passes for 69 yards and 1 touchdown.

Oakes led Birmingham-Southern (3-2, 1-2) by completing 26 of 39 passes for 400 yards with 3 touchdowns, with two receivers going over 100 yards each in receiving. Robert Shufford rushed for 128 yards on 19 carries and 1 touchdown. Seay rushed for 92 yards and three touchdowns.

MEN'S SOCCER

UCA tops Evansville

Nicklas Brodacki, Chris Holmes and Kasper Anderson scored goals as the University of Central Arkansas (5-4-1, 2-1-0 Missouri Valley Conference) defeated Evansville 3-2 on Saturday at the Bill Stephens Complex in Conway.

Marc Olsen made two saves for Central Arkansas, which outshot Evansville (1-5-5, 0-1-1) 14-8.

Ozarks edges Sul Ross

Richard Souffrant and Alex Ross scored in the first half to push the University of the Ozarks (4-7-1, 3-4-0 American Southwest Conference) past Sul Ross State University (1-8-0, 1-6-0) 2-1 Saturday in Clarksville.

Souffrant scored in the fifth minute, while Ross added his fifth goal of the season in the 28th minute. Ozarks goalkeeper Logan Valestin recorded five saves in the victory.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

Lyon wins at home

Joyce Barbosa scored three goals as Lyon College defeated Hannibal-LaGrange 5-2 on Saturday in Batesville.

Barbosa scored in the 44th minute, the 78th minute and the 88th minute for Lyon (5-4-2 overall, 4-1-1 American Midwest Conference).

Alexandria Denton and Sarah Evans scored the other two goals for Lyon.

Harding wins in overtime

Emma Welch scored in the 93rd minute to give Harding University (4-6, 4-2 Great American Conference) a 3-2 victory over East Central (3-9, 1-5) in Ada, Okla.

Welch's goal allowed the Bisons to recover after giving up goals to East Central's Lorianne Baugh and Alexis Castillo in the 66th and 76th minutes to tie the game at 2-2.

Morgan Proffitt and Welch scored in the 43rd and 56th minutes for Harding.

Jessica Woessner mad six saves for Harding while splitting time with Ashton Springer, who allowed both East Central goals.

VOLLEYBALL

UCA sweeps SE Louisiana

The University of Central Arkansas swept Southeastern Louisiana 25-18, 25-9, 25-18 on Saturday in Hammond, La.

Samantha Anderson led Central Arkansas (15-4, 5-1 Southland Conference) with 11 kills. Bailey Washington had 31 assists and Emily Doss had 12 digs.

Haley Baker led Southeastern Louisiana (1-17, 0-6) with 15 assists.

Arkansas Tech loses on road

Arkansas Tech University lost 25-22, 20-25, 25-17, 25-27, 15-11 to Southwestern Oklahoma State in Weatherford, Okla.

Hunter Eshnaur led Arkansas Tech (13-8, 6-3 Great American Conference) with 24 kills. Emily Acker had 49 assists.

Elizabeth McVicker led Southwestern Oklahoma (15-4, 8-1) with 19 kills.

Oklahoma Baptist sweeps SAU

Oklahoma Baptist defeated Southern Arkansas University 25-23, 25-22, 25-12 on Saturday in Shawnee, Okla.

Sarah Powers led Southern Arkansas (7-15, 1-8 Great American Conference) with 11 kills. Malia Leatherland led Oklahoma Baptist (13-12, 6-3) with 11 kills.

Henderson State wins on road

Henderson State University defeated Southeastern Oklahoma State 25-15, 25-20, 25-20 on Saturday in Durant, Okla.

Courtney Bolf had 11 kills for the Reddies (19-3, 8-1 Great American Conference) while Abby Blackburn had 13 assists and Gigi Garramone had 20 digs.

UAFS falls to St. Mary's

St. Mary's defeated the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith 33-31, 25-12, 18-25, 25-21 on Saturday at the Stubblefield Center in Fort Smith.

Rachel Williams had 16 kills while Debra Rogers had 15 for Arkansas-Fort Smith (13-8, 3-1 Heartland Conference). Anna Demmer had 12 kills and 16 digs.

Taylor Stoops had 46 assists.

Hendrix loses at home

Hendrix College lost 25-15, 23-25, 25-10, 25-15 to Birmingham Southern on Saturday in Conway.

Kiersten Summers led Hendrix (14-3, 7-1 Southern Athletic Association) with nine kills. Amber Melcher had 17 assists and Jeanette McGrath had 14 digs.

Jeneva Salter led Birmingham Southern (11-5, 5-2) with 17 kills.

CROSS COUNTRY

Young leads Lady Lions in Oklahoma

Kandace Young of the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith finished eighth Saturday at the Oklahoma Baptist Invitational in Shawnee, Okla.

Young finished the 5,000-meter course in 19 minutes, 14.38 seconds. Oklahoma City's Lydia Mato won the individual title in 17:51.72.

As a team, the Lady Lions finished ninth. Host Oklahoma Baptist won with 24 points while East Central was second with 89 points.
