Out for Life: Exodus Project honors Landers, Higgins, graduate for work in prison release program

Car-dealership giant Steve Landers was presented with the Out for Life award at a Sept. 27 gala at Chenal Country Club.

The event was presented by Under Grace Ministries. Proceeds support the ministries' Exodus Project, which helps men and women re-enter the workplace after their release from prison.

In 2012, Landers retired as president of McLarty-Landers Automotive and became a member of the company's advisory board where he continues to serve.

Also at the event, incoming Sheriff Eric Higgins was presented the Out for Life Volunteer award. He will take over the sheriff's department in January. And Tara Bennett was chosen to receive the Out for Life Graduate award. After her release from prison, she graduated from the Exodus Project and landed a job as a data management specialist.

Mack McLarty served as chairman of the event. In 2004, Landers and McLarty formed their automotive group.
