Woman held in gun death of boyfriend

A Fort Smith woman was being held in the Crawford County jail Wednesday on suspicion of capital murder in the death of her boyfriend.

Bond for Christina McKee, 25, was set at $75,000 Wednesday during an initial court appearance after she was arrested Tuesday night in the shooting death of Shawn Sewell, 33, of the Alma area, Crawford County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Jimmy Damante said.

Damante said witnesses at Truck and Trailer Repair at 5200 U.S. 64, between Van Buren and Alma, saw the couple arguing as Sewell sat in his pickup outside the shop.

Damante said deputies had been called out to the shop Monday because of a domestic dispute between the two and there was a history of domestic problems involving the couple.

About 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, he said, witnesses told deputies that McKee pulled out a pistol that Damante identified as a 9mm handgun and shot Sewell twice in the upper body, then drove away.

Sewell's co-workers at the shop were familiar with McKee and gave deputies a description of her vehicle, which was sent to surrounding law enforcement agencies, he said. Van Buren police spotted the vehicle, pulled over McKee and arrested her, according to reports.

Damante said the investigation in ongoing. Formal charges have not been filed.
