Burkes named as NW airport CEO

HIGHFILL -- Aaron Burkes, president of the Arkansas Development Finance Authority, will become the next chief executive officer of the Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport.

He will replace Scott Van Laningham, who is retiring from the position.

Van Laningham said Burkes starts Nov. 1.

Burkes of Rogers worked in banking and real estate development in Northwest Arkansas before taking a job in economic development in Iowa. He represented Rogers in the state House of Representatives from 2007-09.

The University of Arkansas, Fayetteville announced in March 2015 that Burkes was going to be its associate vice chancellor for business affairs. Instead, he decided to serve as the president of the finance authority at the request of Gov. Asa Hutchinson.
