Two Siloam Springs officers injured during arrest

SILOAM SPRINGS -- Two Siloam Springs Police officers were injured while trying to subdue a Gentry man on Monday.

Officers were dispatched to a report of a suspicious person near Washington and Jefferson streets. Two officers made contact with Jose Arroyo Sandoval, according to a police news release.

Sandoval, 34, provided a false date of birth, but police were able to determine Sandoval's actual birth date and discovered he had numerous warrants for his arrest for theft of property, criminal trespass and failure to appear, the release stated.

Sandoval fled on foot when officers attempted to place handcuffs on him. Officers caught Sandoval and he began to fight with them as they tried to place him in handcuffs again. Sandoval pulled a knife from his pocket during the struggle, but was disarmed, the release stated.

Sandoval bit one officer multiple times before he was restrained. The other officer was scratched. Sandoval was taken to Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.

The two officers were treated and released for their injuries, the release stated.

Sandoval was arrested in connection with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, battery and obstructing governmental operations, the release stated. He is in the Benton County Jail where is being held with no bond set.
