Hike explores loop

Hill 'N Dale Hiking Club will circle the War Eagle Valley Loop at Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area on Thursday. The hike is 6.8 miles.

Audubon sets convention

The 2018 Arkansas Audubon Society fall convention will be Friday through Sunday at the Holiday Inn convention center in Texarkana.

The convention features birding field trips and presentations. Friday registration is from 4 to 7 p.m. Convention registration is $25 per person for members and $35 for nonmembers. Children under 16 are free.

Field trip participants will enjoy seeing great numbers of shorebirds, wading birds, birds of prey and waterfowl.

Duo tops Cast Masters field

Brian Rusher and Dustin Rogers won the Cast Masters bass tournament at Beaver Lake on Sept. 16. Their five bass weighed 12.94 pounds.

Lynn McCutcheon and Richard Brothers were second with five bass at 11.55 pounds. Ken Hang and Danny Long were third with five bass at 9.12.

Fourth through 10th, all with five fish unless noted, were: fourth, Wes Usrey, Terry Anderson, 8.72; fifth, Tim Clark, Gordon Harriman (three fish), 8.3; sixth, Layne McCutcheon, Kelsey Yeager, 7.79; seventh, Allen Westfall, Jeff Swaffer, 7.75; eighth, James Whittle, John Ogle, 7.5; ninth, Brian Simco, Chris Simco, 7.4; 10th, Caleb Baker, Jared Brown, 6.8.

Derek Luper and Doug King had big bass at 5.1 pounds.

Foundation plans banquet

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Foundation will hold its second annual "Into the Wild" wild game supper and auction at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Springdale Airport, 718 S. Old Missouri Road.

Tickets are $125 or $1,000 for a table. Money raised helps fund the foundation's programs and initiatives for youth. For tickets visit agff.org.

The foundation was established in 1982 as a nonprofit fundraising auxiliary to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission

Groups join for cruises

Northwest Arkansas Audubon Society and Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area will host two-hour cruises this fall on the park's pontoon boat to see loons and other birds at Beaver Lake.

Trips are set for Oct. 27, Nov. 3 and Nov. 11. They depart from Rocky Branch Marina at 10 a.m. Experienced birders with Audubon will be on board to help identify birds.

Cost is $10. Register by calling the park visitor center, 479-789-5000.
