Veterans in Arkansas get perks for service

We all know freedom isn't free.

But while it comes at a price, today meals and haircuts won't for those men and women who have proudly served our country.

In honor of Veterans Day today, various restaurants and retailers are rolling out rewards to veterans and active military who present IDs or other valid proof of service.

Below is a list of some discounts offered only today, unless otherwise specified.

Fine print: This list is not all-inclusive; we surely missed a few. Most restaurant deals are dine-in only. Offers typically extended to service members only; family members and friends should expect to pay as usual. Because not all locations might be participating, it's always wise to check before ordering/arriving. Expect to pay tax and gratuity. And again, have proof of service.

Applebee's: Select a free meal from a limited menu of eight items -- no apples, but there's a Fiesta Lime Chicken.

Backyard Burgers: Bite into a free Classic Burger. But expect to pay something if you want to class it up with cheese.

Bar Louie: Hang a Louie and head to Bar Louie for a free flatbread or burger up to $15.

BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse: Here's what's brewing: a complimentary entree up to $12.95 and a free Dr Pepper.

Bonefish Grill: Celebrate with a bang -- a free Bang Bang Shrimp appetizer.

Buffalo Wild Wings: Fly in for a free order of traditional or boneless wings with a side of fries.

Chipotle: Chipotle's chipping in with a buy-one-get-one-free offer that's valid on burritos, bowls, salads and tacos.

Cracker Barrel Old Country Store: This Barrel is rolling out a free slice of Double Chocolate Fudge Coca-Cola Cake.

Dollar General: One needn't be a general to take advantage of an 11 percent discount on qualifying purchases for former and current military personnel and their immediate family members.

Dunkin': They might have taken Donuts out of the name, but they'll give vets a free one today.

Golden Corral: On Monday, they'll be corralling veterans for a free dine-in Military Appreciation Night dinner between 5 and 9 p.m.

Great Clips: Is your high and tight looking low and loose? Get a free haircut or a free haircut card to use later.

Hooters: They do give a hoot, and they're giving free meals from a select six-item Veterans Day menu.

IHOP: On Monday, enjoy a berry tasty breakfast of Red, White & Blue Pancakes with glazed strawberries, blueberry compote and whipped topping.

Little Caesars Pizza: Free $5 Hot-N-Ready Lunch Combo offered between 1100 and 1400 -- that's 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Menchie's Frozen Yogurt: Free 6-ounce yogurt, yo!

Olive Garden: An entree from a select menu, complete with soup or salad and garlic breadsticks won't cost veterans any bread.

On the Border Mexican Grill & Cantina: Here's a very "rice" offer: a free Create-Your-Own Combo 2 Meal ("Choose any two items off the combo menu like tacos, enchiladas, empanadas, mini chimis and more!") with chips and salsa, beans, and rice.

Outback Steakhouse: The Aussie-theme chain is offering a free Bloomin' Onion and a soft drink to all military mates.

Red Lobster: Why go into the Red when you can go into the Red Lobster today and Monday for free appetizer and dessert from a select menu.

Red Robin: Double down with a free Red's Tavern Double Burger and Bottomless Steak Fries.

Ruby Tuesday: Get free Ruby Tuesday appetizer -- not on Tuesday, but today.

Texas Roadhouse: For being an All-American, one can choose from 10 lunch offers, like the All-American Cheeseburger, with a complimentary soft drink.

TGI Fridays: It might not be Friday, but TGI Fridays is offering free lunch menu items up to $12 today and Monday.

Tractor Supply Co.: Tractor Supply is supplying a 15 percent discount to service men and women and their dependents.

Twin Peaks: On Monday, vets can enjoy a free dinner from a select menu! Twinning!
