On Trump as con artist, let’s ask some witnesses

Dale Lange (May 21 letter) is offended that some people are calling Donald Trump a con artist. The dictionary says a con artist is “a person who cheats or tricks others by persuading them to believe something that is not true.” We don’t have to go far to find people who can help us resolve the issue of whether Trump is a con artist. There are lots of people whom we can question.

We can ask the three women to whom Trump promised faithfulness in marriage.

We can ask the more than 5,000 people who enrolled in Trump University.

We can ask the hundreds of contractors, laborers and lawyers who worked for Trump but whom he refused to pay.

We can ask American banks, virtually all of which won’t loan Trump a cent. (Why do you think Trump and his family have to look for financing overseas?)

We can ask the voters to whom Trump promised health care that was far better than Obamacare at a fraction of the cost.

We can ask all of those who have golfed with Trump if he has ever turned in an honest scorecard.

We can ask the fact-checkers who have documented the more than 3,000 lies that Trump has told while in office.

On and on it goes.

Lange makes it sound like Washington, D.C., is a swamp full of con artists to which Trump has brought his special brand of truth telling. On the contrary, Trump brought his own swamp with him. And it’s worse than anything we have ever seen.
