March to our graves

Another tragedy and our illustrious president can't even use his own words to express any feeling, even if it is "fake news," instead reading from a prepared script off the teleprompter. I suppose he will invite these students to the White House as well and use the media to tell the world how he stands behind them. I hope they will refuse his invitation.

I've heard people say he is a class act. I beg to differ--I believe he is a "class a**"!

It's being reported in the news that the president has started the "drum beat" against the FBI/Justice Department. When on God's earth are we Americans going to start our own drum beat and march to show that we have had it with this administration before it takes us all to the grave?

Children still lie in the morgue.

Difference between

S.E. Cupp writes that among Democrats in 2009, support for George W. Bush was at a mere 11 percent; it is now 54 percent.

This should tell you something about Democrats versus Republicans. Today you can hardly find a Republican in open disagreement with Donald Trump and his agenda.

It says even more about Trump that he can garner so much ill will that by comparison G.W. looks like a saint to just about everyone, except perhaps the hard-core Trumpsters, who openly denigrate everyone not toeing the line for their hero.

Honesty's best policy

Been troubleshooting all my life. Came to Arkansas in '75. Bumpers was good, Pryor was good, Asa tries, but Beebe was best. Honest men. Truth is the source of lasting solutions. No shortcuts.

Dump the Candyman Con in Washington. Be not deceived. Truth fixes stuff.

Give us back Mallard

Come on, fellow Arkansans, we can do this with just a little effort.

Here's the plan: Once a month, on our birth date, we send a short letter to the editor asking for Mallard Fillmore back. It can appear on the editorial page as some suggest, or it could replace Wumo in the comic section. I prefer the latter as that would require neither more ink nor print space, not to mention the fantastic content improvement.

Please give us our daily dose of Mallard back.

Print's end is nearing

On May 31 the print edition will discontinue delivery to Jonesboro and Craighead County. I see that there are several other nearby counties that have already had the print edition discontinued. Years ago, starting in about 1980 when I moved to Jacksonville, I noticed that both the Democrat and Gazette tended to consider Arkansas as consisting of only Little Rock, Fayetteville, Hot Springs, and Pine Bluff. Unless there was a disaster or catastrophe, the rest of the state was a forgotten wasteland. Your national and international news coverage was great, but state news covered only the "elite" locations. Do you not realize that Jonesboro/Craighead County is a rapidly growing area?

Walter Hussman will be speaking at the Jonesboro Rotary meeting this week. What's he going to say? Sorry, folks, but our business model doesn't fit with delivering our product to your area? Don't try to sell me on this iPad substitute! Can't you remember when both the Democrat and Gazette delivered papers all over the state? So, instead of making your product adapt to the market you're going to quit delivering to declining areas, reducing your subscription and marketing base. Can you not see that the ultimate result is a reduction down to a select few and finally total collapse?

I submitted a letter when the TV guide section reduced its coverage. I submitted a letter when you eliminated Mallard Fillmore. I guess this will be the final letter for me to submit since I have no desire to try to read a multi-page newspaper on an iPad.

I wish you all the best in your eventual new careers. I see no future when "spread the news" becomes "what happened here?"
