PEA RIDGE -- The Benton County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of Ruby Ross, 81, as a homicide, according to a news release.

Deputies went Ross' house at 11001 Blue Jay Road in Pea Ridge on Wednesday evening after receiving a request to do a welfare check.

Police tape still stretched across the rural home's front fence Thursday morning as detectives collected evidence.

The home on Blue Jay Road is on a dirt road off Arkansas 72, near Ross Salvage Road.

A security camera was attached to the front of the house.

One house is near the Ross home, but no one was home Thursday morning. An occasional vehicle would pass by the residence.

Detectives determined the death was suspicious, but the release states the Sheriff's Office believes this is an isolated incident and there is no immediate danger to the public.
