Dylan Scott was about to hit the stage in 2017 when he got word that the single "My Girl," from his eponymously titled 2016 album, was about to hit No. 1.

"I was playing a show in Ohio when I got the call," the 27-year-old country singer says from his home in Nashville, Tenn.

"We were hoping it would go to No. 1. It was close, but you never know until it's actually there. They called me up, it was literally an hour before I went onstage. I know it's cheesy to say, but it was a dream come true."

Scott, who grew up outside of Bastrop. La., near the Arkansas line, will open Friday for Justin Moore at Little Rock's First Security Amphitheater.

Life in rural northeastern Louisiana consisted of hunting, riding four-wheelers and music, he says. His dad, Scotty Robinson, played guitar for Freddy Fender, Freddy Hart and other country singers. Performing became second nature to his son.

"I just wanted to be a performer and be onstage and sing," he says. "When I was 16 or 17, I joined a gospel trio and we traveled the South, playing music in churches."

By the time he was 19, he left Louisiana for Nashville, where he signed a deal with Curb Records.

Family is still close by. His younger brother, Logan, is his lead guitarist. Rounding out Scott's band is another set of brothers, Kentuckians Garrett and Darrick Cline, on bass and drums, respectively.

"It makes it easier on the road, for sure," Scott says.

Scott's live shows are high-energy affairs, and "Hooked," the latest single from Dylan Scott, is another dancy, pop-country banger that ought surely to translate well in concert.

"It's climbing the charts and doing well for us," the singer says.

As for new songs? Yeah, there are plenty on the way, although he's not quite sure about the form in which they will appear.

"We have quite a few songs in the can and ready to go," he explains. "We've been writing, and I hope to start releasing some new music, whether it's a full album or just releasing music every couple of months.

"There's the thought that albums are kind of a thing of the past, so we're going to experiment with some things and just release music."
