CONWAY -- The University of Central Arkansas is continuing its efforts to suspend a student who was discovered with a gun in her car. The University has filed a motion asking that a judge alter his decision that the university's firearm policy is unconstitutional. Earlier this year, UCA suspended Heather Denton after a gun was found in her car. She said she did not know the gun, which did not belong to her, was in the car. Circuit-Chancery Judge Watson Villines of Conway overruled Denton's suspension when he decided the university's firearm policy is unconstitutional because it does not require that the students have intent to violate it.

• Hiring a taxi in Little Rock will cost passengers another $1 starting Tuesday, when a new fuel surcharge approved by city directors goes into effect. The additional $1 is a temporary fix while city officials tweak proposals for new taxi rates in Little Rock. The surcharge, which expires June 20, means a taxi ride will start at $4. Yellow Cab, the only permitted taxi company in the capital city, asked the city for the temporary surcharge last week as a way to help drivers recoup increasing fuel expenses until the new ordinance is in place.
