Washington man who killed money-lending store workers sentenced

YAKIMA, Wash. — A central Washington man who shot and killed two money-lending store employees has been sentenced to two life sentences without possibility of parole.

The Yakima Herald reports that Manuel Enrique Verduzco Jr. of Selah received the sentence Friday in Yakima County Superior Court.

A jury convicted Verduzco of the March 2016 killings of 27-year-old Karina Morales-Rodriguez of Toppenish and 30-year-old Marta Martinez of Yakima. The two worked at a MoneyTree lending store.

Verduzco's defense attorneys argued that Verduzco was experiencing a schizophrenic episode during the killings.

Prosecutors said Verduzco killed the women during a robbery that went bad.
