This Week's State Meet Schedule
Today
Class 3A at Jessieville; Class 4A at Pocahontas
Wednesday
Class 1A-2A at Mineral Springs
Thursday
Class 5A at Magnolia; Class 6A at Russellville; Class 7A at Bryant
All meets will use the following schedule
10:30 a.m. -- finals in girls pole vault, discus and long jump and boys shot put, triple jump and high jump
12:30 p.m. -- running prelims in girls 100 hurdles, boys 110 hurdles, 100, 4x100 relay and 200, and the finals for the 4x800 relay (Note: a 15-minute break will take place between the 4x100 relay and the 200).
2:30 p.m. -- boys pole vault
3:30 p.m. -- finals in girls shot put, triple jump and high jump and boys discus and long jump.
5:30 p.m. -- running finals.
IT HAPPENED LAST WEEK
Nettleton high jumper Will Joyner became the only person in the state to reached the 7-foot mark when he cleared that height during the 5A-East Conference meet in Batesville. Joyner broke his previous high of 6-10 with that jump, which beat the rest of his competitors by at least 14 inches.
Now he just needs to go at least three-fourths of an inch higher this week if he wants to break the Class 5A state record of 7-0.5 set by Crossett's Rod Newton in 1996. The overall state mark is 7-1.5 set by Kenny Evans of Pine Bluff, also set in 1996.
