Authorities said over 500 people attended local marches in Springdale and Bentonville for the national March For Our Lives movement, which champions student safety and comprehensive gun regulation to stop mass shootings.

"This is how a rally is supposed to go," said Gene Page, Bentonville police spokesman.

About 450 people attended the Bentonville rally at it's highest point after noon, Page said. There were no arrests related to either marches, police said.

Self-described patriot group the Hiwaymen and the ShieldWall Network counter-protested the Bentonville march.

About 150-200 people gathered at Walter Turnbow Park at Shiloh Square at 10 a.m. Caleb Casey, Har-Ber High School senior, led the march to South Thompson Street where participators held signs for drivers to see.
