Library drive

The Bella Vista Friends of the Library Membership Drive continues through March 31. An annual membership is $10 and family membership is $25. All memberships will receive a free paperback book from the Encore Book Store as well as a 50 percent coupon for a one time purchase of books before April 7. Memberships of $25 or more will be eligible for one of their donated meal certificates. All proceeds are used to support the expansion project of the library. Membership fees may be paid at the library during regular business hours or mailed to the Bella Vista Public Library, 11 Dickens Place, Bella Vista, AR 72714.

Ostomates

The Northwest Arkansas Ostomy Education and Support Group will meet at 2 p.m. today at Hope Cancer Resources, 5835 W. Sunset Ave. in Springdale. The subject for discussion will be traveling with an ostomy. There will be a 1 p.m. educational meeting prior to the main meeting. The doors will open at 12:45 p.m. If for any reason the roads are unsafe due to inclement weather, the meeting will be canceled.

Fleet Reserve

The monthly meeting of the Fleet Reserve Association and Auxiliary will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Western Sizzlin' on U.S. 412 in Springdale.

Retired Teachers

The Washington County Retired Teachers Association will meet at 12:15 p.m. Monday at the Western Sizzlin' in Springdale. Registration will be from 11 to 11:30 a.m., with a buffet lunch at 11:30 a.m.

Susan Young from Shiloh Museum will present a program for Women's History Month. All members need to bring items for the charitable donations.

Cancer support

This supportive and educational group is for adult Hispanic patients, caregivers, families and friends coping with any type of cancer. All group communication will be in Spanish. The group meets from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday at Hope Cancer Resources, 5835 W. Sunset Ave. in Springdale.

S.U.V.

The Sons of Union Veterans will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at Foghorn's, 2221 W. Walnut St. in Rogers. Dinner will be at 6 p.m.

The Sons of Union Veterans is a fraternal organization dedicated to the heritage of those who fought for the United States during the Civil War. The meeting is open to everyone.

Photographers

Beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Photographic Society of Northwest Arkansas instructor Jane Goble will teach an Introduction to Sony Cameras at the PSNWA Gallery and Studio, 207 N.E. Second St. in Bentonville. This class is aimed at beginning photographers with Sony cameras who are trying to get a feel for the menus, buttons and features of the camera.

Quilt Guild

Patti Coppock of Tulsa will present a trunk show at the 6:30 p.m. Tuesday meeting of the Northwest Arkansas Modern Quilt Guild at Southside Church of Christ, 919 S. Dixieland Road in Rogers. Coppock uses "ugly" fabric for her quilts and specializes in unusual fabric combinations.

Rep. Women

The Benton County Republican Women's Club will meet beginning at noon Tuesday at Pleasant Crossing Golden Corral in Rogers. Networking begins at 11:30 a.m.

One contested race is for Arkansas Secretary of State, and the two Republican candidates, AR District 68 Trevor Drown and AR Land Commissioner John Thurston, will be the guests to present their plans to earn votes.

BCRW meets the third Tuesday of each month. The public is welcome.

Senior Democrats

The Senior Democrats of Northwest Arkansas will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Western Sizzlin in Springdale. Nicole Clowney and Mark Kinion will be the speakers, both candidates are in a primary on May 22. The winner of the primary will be unopposed in the November election.

Photography Club

The Bella Vista/Bentonville Photography Club will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Hometown Bank in Jane, Mo. The contest subject for the month will be composite/layered/stacked photos.

Rotary

The Bentonville Noon Rotary will meet for lunch at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday at the Bentonville Community Center, 1101 S.W. Citizens Circle. The meeting is open to the public. The speaker will be Dr. Evelyn Jorgenson with the Northwest Arkansas Community College. Jorgensen will be updating the group on the state of NWACC, as well as its expansion into Springdale.

Rotary is a global network of 1.2 million neighbors, friends, leaders and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change across the globe, in their communities and in themselves. The Bentonville Noon Rotary meets every Wednesday.

Ozark Hill Hikers

The Ozark Hill Hikers, associated with the American Volkssport Association, will be hosting a 5K or 10K paved walk beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday, circling Lake Atalanta and continuing along neighborhoods close to downtown Rogers.

Meet at Jiffy Kwick, 219 S. Arkansas St. in Rogers, between 9:30 and 10 a.m. In case of last minute time changes or weather cancellation, check the website calendar.

Roundtable

The Northwest Arkansas Civil War Roundtable will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Old Store annex of the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History, 118 W. Johnson St. in Springdale. The program will be "Civil War Letters" presented by Keiana McCoy and Robert Kroening. The program is open to all with an interest in Civil War history.

QUILT

Beth Helfter of Eva Page Quilts will present the March program at Quilters United in Learning Together. The meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 2898 S. 48th St. in Springdale. Helfter specializes in scrappy quilts, using her theory of "consistency in the chaos."

Woodcarvers

The Bella Vista Woodcarvers Club will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday in the craft room of Riordan Hall. There will be a class on woodcarving by Don Lang, a master carver with the club. There will be a general overview of types of woods and tools for carving, their sources and differences, along with discussion on types of carvings. People interested in woodcarving are invited to this free meeting.

OHTA

On Saturday, the Ozarks Highlands Trail Association will lead a 6.3 mile hike from White Rock Mountain down west loop to Shores Lake. Rated moderate difficult due to distance and elevation variance, this popular hike features superb valley views and spectacular waterfall. Meet up Saturday at 8:30 a.m. on the parking lot of Mountain Man Pawn Shop, 1650 S. School Ave., to carpool from Fayetteville to White Rock or meet directly at White Rock Trailhead from 9:15 to 9:30 a.m. Bring daypack, water and lunch. Dogs are welcome with a leash.

CLIMB

Children's Lives Include Moments of Bravery is a Children's Treehouse Foundation family support group that helps children ages 6 to 12 cope with and share feelings about a parent or loved one who has cancer. The next group will meet from 5:30 to 7 p.m. every Monday from March 26 until April 30 at Hope Cancer Resources, 5835 W. Sunset Ave. in Springdale. Registration is required.

Sugar Creek

Join the celebration of the 46th anniversary of the Buffalo National River at 6 p.m. March 26 in the Arvest Bank conference room on Legion Lane, off the Bentonville Square. The Sugar Creek Chapter of the Ozark Society will welcome Lauren Ray, interpreter at the Buffalo National River. Ray has been called the "Rappin' Ranger" since she started creating fun raps to share her passion for national parks. There will be cake and refreshments and the public is welcome.

BC Dems

The Benton County Dems will meet at 11 a.m. March 26 at Golden Corral in Rogers with a program beginning at noon. Joyce Hale, League of Women Voters in Washington County, will speak on "The Health of Arkansas' Democracy," drawing from a comparative report of all states by the Center for American Progress.

Calico Cut-Ups

The Calico Cut-Ups Quilt Guild of Bella Vista will meet at 1 p.m. March 26 in the First United Methodist Church, 20 Boyce Drive. The guild is for quilters of all experience levels, and holds informational meetings to learn new techniques about quilting, to meet other quilters and make new friends.

The speaker will be Deborah Rubles from Lebanon, Mo., who will talk about the sliding ruler method of cutting fabric. There will be a workshop from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Pat Coppola of Village Quilting will teach strips and strings piecing. Bring machine, strips of material 1 1/2-inches by 2 1/2-inches and basic quilting supplies. For those who don't have strips there will be plenty at the class to share. There is no charge for the class.

There is a $5 charge for nonmembers who attend the meeting to help pay for the cost of the speaker. If you become a member for $25 a year, the meeting are no charge.

Swing Dance Society

The Northwest Arkansas Swing Dance Society will hold an East Coast Swing from 7 to 11 p.m. March 31 at the University of Arkansas Verizon Ballroom in the Student Union, fifth floor. Dance into the night to music from the 1920s, 30s and 40s, with or without a partner.

There will be an intermediate workshop from 2 to 4 p.m. and beginner lessons from 6 to 7 p.m.

Cancer

Hope Cancer Resources offers a six-week art group, Art, Healing & Hope: Collaging Your Story, for patients with any type of cancer. Members will create a collage of their personal cancer journey. A light meal and all supplies needed for the project will be provided. The next group will meet from 5:30 to 7 p.m. every Thursday from April 5 until May 10 at Hope Cancer Resources, 5835 W. Sunset Ave. in Springdale. Members must RSVP to attend.

Kiwanis

The Northwest Arkansas Kiwanis Clubs are having a Fun Walk benefiting Arkansas Children's Northwest beginning with registration at 8:30 a.m. April 21 at the Har-Ber High School Track, 300 Jones Road in Springdale. The walk begins at 9 a.m.

Sponsorships are available and include recognition and corporate teams. Individual registration is $15. Checks may be made to the Springdale Kiwanis Club Foundation and are tax deductible. Their goal is to raise at least $60,000 for ACH.

Shriners

The Nomad Shrine Club is pre-selling Vidalia onions for delivery the last week in April or first week in May. Proceeds help the Shriners in Northwest Arkansas to continue helping the kids and families in this area that are patients in a Shriner Hospital. Shriners support the families if needed in transporting the kids to the Shrine Hospitals.

Children up to the age of 21 are eligible for care at Shriners Hospitals. Acceptance as a patient is based solely on a child's medical needs. Children who are in need of medical and surgical care such as pediatric, orthopedic, burns, spinal cord injuries, cleft palate and numerous developmental problems for which services are provided by the Shriners Hospitals at no cost to the family.

The cost of onions is $6 for 5 pounds and $11 for 10 pounds.
