Audit of booster club says $21,256 missing

Group’s leader in Bergman charged

A 28-year-old Boone County woman has been charged with felony theft of property after about $21,256 was discovered missing from the Bergman School District's Booster Club, according to court records filed Wednesday.

Allison Joy Hartoonian was placed in charge of the booster club in August, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed in Boone County Circuit Court.

The club assists with concession sales at volleyball and basketball games, according to the affidavit.

When Hartoonian took over in August, the club had $4,259 in its account, according to the court filing. By the end of January, the balance was $95.74.

Based on the number of sports events during that time, Superintendent Joe Couch said there should have been considerably more money in the account, according to the affidavit.

An auditor determined there was $34,434 in documented concession sales during that period and about $7,378 in undocumented sales, for a total of $41,812.

Giving credit for deposits, payroll and documented disbursements, the auditor estimated the potential shortfall at $21,256, according to the affidavit.

Hartoonian was booked in the Boone County jail on Tuesday and released 40 minutes later on $10,000 bond.
