Educators to get $1,000 sponsorships

Cash to help them attend conference

Sixteen Arkansas educators have been selected to receive $1,000 sponsorships to attend the Computer Science Teachers Association conference in Omaha, Neb., in July.

The sponsorships announced by the Arkansas Department of Education are meant to help educators expand their knowledge of computer science and give them the opportunity to network with other educators from around the world at the conference.

The recipients and their schools are:

• Tiffany American Horse: computer science teacher, Bentonville High School.

• DeWyn Avey: library media specialist, Rural Special in Mountain View.

• Shannon Davis: teacher, Hurricane Creek Elementary in Bryant.

• Chelsea Henderson: math department head, Earle High School.

• Ashley Hobbs: library media specialist, Morrison Elementary in Fort Smith.

• Teresa Inman: instructional technology coordinator, Paris School District.

• Ashley Linderman: teacher, Forrest City College Preparatory with KIPP Delta.

• Blake Matthews: teacher, Washington Junior High in Bentonville.

• Michele Owen: library media specialist, Hill Farm Elementary in Bryant.

• Christine Ruffin: computer science/coding teacher, Lake Hamilton Middle School.

• Dustin Summey: lead computer science teacher, Virtual Arkansas at Arch Ford Education Service Cooperative.

• Therron Telford: teacher/instructor, Arkansas High School in Texarkana.

• Marta Underwood: teacher/technology coordinator, Mammoth Spring High School.

• Stephanie Vincent: business technology teacher, Bay High School in Bay.

• Tracy Watson: teacher, Benton High School.

• Mitchell Williams: computer science teacher, Lead Hill High School.

The sponsorships were open to Arkansas kindergarten- through 12th-grade public school teachers, librarians, curriculum coordinators, counselors and others who have demonstrated their commitments to technology integration and computer science education at their schools or districts.

Educators were selected by an impartial committee of Education Department employees and statewide computer science specialists.
