Police say woman stole car with child inside

FAYETTEVILLE -- Police arrested a Fayetteville woman who they said stole a car with a 4-year-old girl inside this morning.

Angela Marie McGarrah, 35, of 209 E. 7th St. faces charges of kidnapping, theft of a motor vehicle and endangering the welfare of a minor, according to a preliminary police report.

A women called police at 10:45 a.m. and said someone took her car with her child inside near the intersection of South Washington Avenue and 13th Street. The mother said she left her white Ford Escape running with the windows down while she got out of the car at 1309 S. Washington Ave., according to the report.

While the mother was walking toward the house, a woman in a brown hoodie got in the car and drove off with her daughter asleep in the car, the mother told police.

Arkansas State Police spotted McGarrah near the intersection of Old Wire Road and Arkansas 264 northeast of Bethel Heights.

The child was not injured and McGarrah was arrested.

McGarrah was found guilty of endangering a minor in January 2017 in Washington County. She was found guilty of unauthorized use of a vehicle in May 2016 and guilty of theft of property in February 2013. In December 2009, she was found guilty of aggravated assault and criminal mischief.
