An immigration mess

Our politicians and writers like Paul Krugman are creating a major firestorm with our immigration mess.

I had the opportunity to observe the terrible favelas in South America and the slums in Mexico. I have watched many television programs on the horrible conditions in Haiti, Africa, India, Pakistan, etc. Most of these programs are viewed on public television.

How many times have you experienced small children and babies crying and having fits in the arms of their parents? How many of you observed the crying and bad behavior that occurs in day-care centers?

Our government agencies continue to do an outstanding and humane job of handling the treatment of illegal aliens and their children. The mess our federal government has made regarding immigration goes back over at least 30 years and several administrations. It has even been aggravated by presidential decisions over many administrations.

The American people and our democracy are being torn apart by radical groups on both the left and the right, and Congress compounds the mess.

By the way, Paul Krugman is a real qualified voice in this mess. He has had two wives and no children.

On dealing with cops

Do not run! Whether one is innocent or guilty, do not run--a policeman has to make a decision to draw his weapon.

When will they learn?

Faith versus evolution

I have been told that we cannot put God in a test tube--yet this is what he demanded we do. He said test me, try me, and prove me. The theory of evolution belongs in this test. I believe there is nothing in the laws and properties of matter that can account for the existence of matter or the location of matter. There is nothing in matter that can account for life; it must have a power outside itself.

There was a first man. God created him in his image and likeness. He desired to communicate with his rational creature, man. Cro-magnon man did not commune with God. He was an ape-like creature with higher intelligence than other animals and, like dinosaurs, he is extinct. God gave man faith so that he is conscious of feelings to do right and avoid wrong. God gave man miracles to enhance his desire to commune with God. He gave man law to teach man to love God and to love one another and how to worship God by practicing God's presence gregariously. God sent his son to fulfill the law for man and give an example of perfect obedience. When Jesus ascended to the father, he sent the Holy Spirit who through the hand of man wrote the Bible, giving an account of all God did, with instructions.

All who believe are not condemned. All who do not believe are condemned already because they have not believed in the name of the only begotten son of God. They are destined to a place of torment, a place called hell. All who believe have this promise. We are children and heirs of God. We are also heirs with Jesus, the son, in a place he is preparing for us called heaven.

Problem's the culture

Thank you, Paul Greenberg, for speaking the truth in a well-written column on the decline of family values and gun violence. That column needs to be broadcast and reported all across America. People don't want to wake up and admit to the realization that guns cannot kill without help from people.

I do agree military guns do not need to be in the hands of civilian personnel. Especially automatic rifles. In my day and time we didn't shoot rabbits and squirrels with AR-15s.

I believe we can place the blame for our present culture on the major TV networks and their reporting the news. A lot of the blame for our present culture in the decline of family values, gun violence and vulgarity can be placed on TV shows, movies, music, PCs, iPads, video games and smartphones. I do not think the NRA has any connection to them.

Now, more than ever, family values need to be restored.

New laws cannot change our situation. We don't enforce the ones we have. The police community's hands are tied as well as assaulted by the public for trying.

I believe it is only by God's intervention and his grace that our present-day culture is going to change. It starts with you and me and millions of others taking a stand.

Enjoy reading my Democrat-Gazette each morning delivered by a great carrier.

To enforce U.S. laws

Getting worn out by people saying Christians cannot really be Christians if they believe the immigration laws of our country should be obeyed. Remember Jesus said, "Render unto Caesar," which to me means there is a separate duty as a citizen, even for Christians. If a Christian thinks a law is wrong, then he or she should work to get it changed; otherwise, you're just another lawbreaker.

I really believe I can support being a sovereign country with secure borders and endorse enforcement of the immigration laws while being a Christian. And remember, you could be helping these people in their home countries by donating your time, money or both to various international organizations instead of promoting the idea that it is the duty of U.S. taxpayers to support anyone able to get here.
