The Rep to host forum for public
The Arkansas Repertory Theatre is hosting a town-hall-style meeting to seek public input on its future Tuesday.
The event will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the theater at 601 Main St. in Little Rock.
It's meant to give audiences, donors and other community members the opportunity to offer "constructive input to assist leaders in developing an action plan for the future of the state's largest nonprofit professional theater," a news release said.
Theater leaders said people are encouraged to RSVP by calling the box office at (501) 378-0405 or emailing [email protected].
The Rep announced in April that it was immediately suspending its operations due to significant cash flow issues. It had a $750,000 deficit, it said.
It has since announced it has received about $290,000 in donations and two grants collectively worth more than $1 million.
Firefighters seek fans for donation
The Little Rock Fire Department is collecting fans to help residents who don't have access to adequate air conditioning.
The department provides box fans to senior citizens, low-income residents, families with small children and others who live with limited air conditioning.
Donations can be dropped off at any Little Rock fire station. Box fans are preferred, but any working fan will be accepted.
The fans will be available to those who need them while supplies last. They are limited to one per household.
The fan drive will last through Sept. 28.
Event celebrates legendary station
Arkansas Sounds is presenting a celebration of radio station KAAY, 1090 AM, on Friday.
The Mighty 1090 will be honored with photos, audio clips and a panel discussion featuring original KAAY on-air personalities.
The event is at 7 p.m. at the Ron Robinson Theater, 100 River Market Avenue in downtown Little Rock. It is free and open to the public.
Arkansas Sounds is a project of the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies, a department of the Central Arkansas Library System. It focuses on Arkansas music and musicians both past and present.
LR to buy system for city attorney
Little Rock will buy a $156,000 case management system for the city attorney's office at the recommendation of outside efficiency auditors.
The new program is billed as a system to manage cases, time and documents.
"It permits the preparation of periodic reports to determine the work load of the office, the requirements that are placed upon the office by various departments within the city and data to be able to plan for further improvements within the office. A recent study conducted for the City Attorney suggested that this was a top priority for the more efficient operation of the office," a memorandum to the city Board of Directors said.
The board has previously criticized City Attorney Tom Carpenter about his office's organization and the time it takes for requests to be completed.
