Odor from poultry plant returns to downtown

The downtown area of Rogers has been growing, many new restaurants, coffee shops, pubs … really a fun place to go. Except, for the terrible stench that frequently comes from the Tyson’s plant downtown. When Mayor [Steve] Womack was in office, he worked with them to reduce the stench, very successfully. Now, the stench is back. I have contacted the city in the past about the ordinance against bad odors, but they did nothing. Perhaps Mayor Greg Hines can step up and do something about it now, as Womack did.

When it comes to geese, airport can use rocks

You could tell Bentonville’s Airport Advisory Board they have another option to deal with their geese. All they need to do is line the lake bank with large rocks (Arkansas has an abundance) to deter their access and that of their young. I saw this work very well on numerous small ponds and lakes in Iowa. Why not Arkansas?

Immigration and chats with granddaughters

Phyllis Farrish of Bella Vista wrote of her 10-year-old granddaughter’s initial objection to building a wall on the border. Farrish replied: “Why do I have walls on my house and a door with a lock on it? Isn’t it because I don’t like people, but I want to have control of who comes into my house, how many and when.” “Oh,” her granddaughter said. “Now I get it.” So I wondered how my grandchildren would respond. I suspect they would ask, “You mean she would not help me if I ran to her door for help if I was in danger or hungry?” “I don’t know,” I answered. “Maybe if it was convenient for her.”
