Arkansas woman's body discovered in freezer; believed suspect is husband found dead day before

A Northwest Arkansas woman whose body was found in a freezer while officers were trying to notify her of her husband's suicide died of blunt-force trauma, authorities said Friday.

The Logan County sheriff's office first notified the West Fork Police Department of the suicide Sunday, after 56-year-old Lawrence Bruick killed himself near Mount Magazine, according to a news release.

After trying to notify the man's wife, Lori Bruick, several times, officers conducted a welfare check at the residence Monday, police spokesman Tyler Underwood said.

While searching the home in the 800 block of James Place, authorities found Lori Bruick, 55, in a chest freezer in a garage, where it appeared an altercation had taken place, the release states. A preliminary report from the state medical examiner's office revealed her cause of death as blunt-force trauma, authorities said.

Officers also reportedly found male clothing stained with blood and several letters showing Lawrence Bruick was having suicidal thoughts.

Investigators do not know what caused the altercation between the couple. Police do not believe there are any suspects in the woman's death other than her husband, Underwood said.
