An Arkadelphia man was killed Wednesday when his vehicle left the highway, hit a ditch and collided with a tree, Arkansas State Police said. Authorities said Jackie Gray, 67, was traveling west on U.S. 70 in Lonsdale in Garland County when his 2002 Buick crossed the middle turn lane and both eastbound lanes at about 2:45 p.m. The Buick then traveled into a ditch and hit a tree, according to a crash report.

The report did not say what caused the vehicle to cross the centerline. Gray died at the scene. Conditions were described as clear and dry at the time of the wreck.

At least 193 people have died on Arkansas roadways so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
