Northwest Arkansas faces a slight risk for severe weather early Tuesday before another storm threat is set to encompass the state’s northeast later that day, forecasters say.
Overnight, isolated to scattered storms are possible, bringing the potential for damaging winds and locally heavy rain to parts of the state, the National Weather Service said.
A slight risk is in place for Northwest Arkansas, including Fayetteville, according to the agency’s Tulsa office. Surrounding areas are included in a marginal risk.
That threat means the potential for 60 mph winds and quarter-size hail, meteorologists said.
“Strong to severe thunderstorms will develop in Kansas along a cold front late this afternoon and evening,” according to a statement. “These storms may propagate south into parts of eastern Oklahoma and Northwest Arkansas overnight.”
Tuesday’s forecast also calls for a marginal risk in northeast Arkansas, where the main concern will again be strong to damaging winds.
The agency’s North Little Rock office noted that rainfall chances will linger through the weekend, again with the potential for brief severe storms.
Heat index values will reach the mid-90s to just over 100 degrees Monday, according to the latest forecast. High temperatures are expected to be in the upper 80s to mid-90s.
