Lifeguards save drowning girl at Fayetteville Boys & Girls Club

FAYETTEVILLE -- Boys & Girls Club lifeguards rescued a girl from drowning Friday afternoon, according to a press release.

A child -- whose name was not given -- appeared to be struggling while swimming in the club's pool, said Becky Brink, a Donald W. Reynolds Boys & Girls Club spokeswoman, in the press release Friday night.

The trained lifeguards on duty at the pool jumped in, pulled the girl out of the water and one performed CPR. The child was transported to a nearby hospital where a hospital representative reported that she was responsive, the press release states.

"The safety and protection of the children we serve is the number one priority of the Donald W. Reynolds Boys & Girls Club. All supervisory policies are designed to ensure the maximum safety and protection of club members and staff," Brink said in the press release.

Neither Brink nor the club responded to an in-person visit, phone calls and voice messages Saturday in regard to more information about the incident.
