Arkansas teen pleads innocent to taunting baby with Taser; arrests made after Snapchat videos posted

One of three teenage girls arrested after Snapchat videos showed a baby being taunted with a Taser has pleaded innocent, prosecutors said.

Makayla Brewster, 17, of Conway faces one count of first-degree endangering the welfare of a minor, records show. The other two teens haven't been named.

Brewster entered the plea Friday before Faulkner County Circuit Judge Troy Braswell, Prosecuting Attorney Luke Ferguson said Wednesday. A pretrial hearing is set for Sept. 19.

On July 9, an officer was called to Conway Regional Medical Center on a report of child abuse, according to an affidavit filed in Faulkner County Circuit Court.

The child's mother, Elyssia Watkins, said she was alerted to a Snapchat video showing three people hitting her daughter in the back of the head and scaring her with a stun gun.

One video shows a Taser being held and "zapped" at the 1-year-old girl as three teens baby-sitting the child were "laughing hysterically," an officer with the Conway Police Department wrote in court documents.

"In the video, you can see and hear the electric prongs on the Taser lighting up," the affidavit states. "The baby is visibly terrified and begins crying and trying to get away."

Authorities said the 1-year-old crawled to the edge of the bed, where she was wailing and had her arms "outstretched."

The Taser was then used two more times near the girl, according to the Police Department.

Another Snapchat video shows Brewster sitting on a bed with the baby in front of her before she hits the child on the back of the head, documents show. Authorities said the child immediately began screaming in pain.

"She a bully, but I'm dying," the video's caption stated alongside a "laughing with tears" emoji, according to the affidavit.

Brewster and the two other teens who were said to be baby-sitting the girl were arrested July 9. Each faces one count of first-degree endangering the welfare of a minor.

It was unclear whether Brewster was still being held at a juvenile detention center Wednesday afternoon.
