Arkansas 18 job to disrupt traffic

Work to widen a section of Arkansas 18 in Mississippi County will require lane closings for two weeks beginning Thursday, the Arkansas Department of Transportation said.

Crews will intermittently close the westbound lane to receive materials and place concrete for new bridge construction at the Big Lake Outlet Bridge southeast of Manila.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane on Arkansas 18 at the existing bridge, and flaggers and signs will control traffic from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through Aug. 10. Traffic may be stopped across all lanes for 15-minute periods when a crane is operating over the existing bridge, the department said.

The work is part of a $35.5 million project to widen 1.8 miles of Arkansas 18 to five lanes.
