Chilly Cow light ice cream
Chilly Cow light ice cream

WHAT: Chilly Cow light ice cream

STATS: Varies by flavor. One 4-ounce tub of the Brown Butter Salted Caramel contains 180 calories and 4 fat, 38 carbohydrate, 9 fiber, 17 sugar and 12 protein grams. We found them at Walmart, 700 Bowman Road, Little Rock.

THE SKINNY: There's a new Cow in the ice cream freezer -- have you herd?

For a long time, Skinny Cow by Nestle has made light frozen ice cream. And now it is joined by new Chilly Cow by Wells Enterprises (Blue Bunny), which also makes light frozen ice cream.

Chilly Cow, which is sweetened with sugar, erythritol and stevia leaf extract, claims to be "the first protein-packed, light ice cream to use ultra-filtered milk." It is available in half-pints that are sold in packs of two in these flavors: Brown Butter Salted Caramel; Chocolate Brownie Batter; Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough; Cookies 'N Cream; Mint Dark Chocolate Chip; Sweet Cream Peanut Butter; and Vanilla Graham Swirl. Chilly Cow bars are available, but only in the salted caramel, brownie and mint flavors.

Of the flavors we sampled, the mint was a bit harsh. But the salted caramel and cookie dough varieties had decent flavor, creaminess and mouth-feel; they greatly improved our moo-d.
