Blood centerseeks donors

The Community Blood Center of the Ozarks strives for area blood reserves to be at around a three-day supply for all blood types. At the time of this release, the blood center has at least a three-day supply of all types. Since it takes around 200 donations per day to meet area needs, the public is urged to continue to help by donating at a CBCO blood drive or donor center near them.

Caregivingis topic

Hope for the Future is an annual caregiver workshop held in Fayetteville through which Alzheimer's Arkansas reaches out to caregivers across Arkansas. This daylong workshop provides family and professional caregivers with general information regarding Alzheimer's disease and its progression; tools, knowledge and techniques to improve caregiving skills; and information concerning resources available to caregivers and Alzheimer's patients through vendor exhibits. Hope for the Future will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. July 27 at Central United Methodist Church, 6 W. Dickson St. in Fayetteville.

Caregivers, both family and professionals, attend from across Arkansas. Family caregivers attend free of charge, unless requesting continuing education credits. Reimbursement for respite care to allow family caregivers to attend the workshop is also available. Continuing education credits (CEU's) are available for nurses, nursing home administrators, occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants, physical therapists, pharmacists, psychologists, emergency medical services, social workers and certified nursing assistants.

UAFS to hosttown halls

The University of Arkansas at Fort Smith will host two town halls this summer -- one at 6 p.m. July 31 for candidates in the Fort Smith board of directors race, and a second at noon Aug. 2 for Fort Smith mayoral candidates.

The board of directors town hall will take place in the theater of Windgate Art & Design, 535 N. Waldron Road, while the mayoral town hall will be held in the Reynolds Room of the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center, 800 N. 49th St. Both events are free and open to the public.

Robyn Dawson, Sam Price and Libby Piatt are the three declared candidates for the at-large position 5 on the board of directors, while Rep. George McGill, Wayne Haver and Luis Andrade are running for mayor of Fort Smith. In each town hall, the candidates will field questions from UAFS students and community members on their respective visions for Fort Smith.

Shiloh hostsradio day

The Bella Vista Radio Club will set up a special station at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 11 to answer questions about amateur radio and to give visitors a chance to talk on the radio with operators from around the world.

The museum is located at 118 W. Johnson Avenue in downtown Springdale.

RHS 1973sets reunion

Rogers High School class of 1973 will celebrate its 45th reunion Sept. 28 and 29, in conjunction with the Rogers High School homecoming football game against Fayetteville. Classmates may participate in the parade, tailgating before the game on Sept. 28 and a social gathering at 6 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Holiday Inn & Suites with a live band which will play music from the 1970s. Dress is casual and all events are free.
