Museum grants

Nineteen organizations from around Arkansas received a Small Museum Grant from the Department of Arkansas Heritage at a ceremony June 29 at DAH's headquarters in Little Rock. The grants ranged in size from $1,700 to $2,500 for each institution and will fund such things as operations, educational opportunities for community youth and website development.

Grants were announced for these local organizations: Benton County Historical Society, Bentonville, $2,500; Tontitown Historical Museum, Tontitown, $2,500; Fort Smith Heritage Foundation, Fort Smith, $2,500; Clinton House Museum, Fayetteville, $2,500; Newton County Historical Society, Jasper, $2,500; Saunders Memorial Museum, Berryville, $2,200; and Washington County Historical Society, $2,500.

To be eligible for the grants, applicants had to be nonprofit museums or historical societies with annual operating budgets of up to $250,000 and at least one staff person, either paid or unpaid. Staff time must be devoted primarily to the care of the museum and its collections, and the museum must be open to the public at least 90 days per year.
