PICKING AND STRUMMING: Arts education in spotlight at Thea Foundation event

Strings instructor Keith Klosky and art instructor Amanda Heinbockel demonstrated their talents July 12 at Thea Thursdays.

The educational series at Thea in North Little Rock gives Thea Foundation board members and supporters a firsthand look at what the foundation does in Arkansas schools.

Klosky played several string instruments and allowed guests to try playing them, while Heinbockel gave instructions on how to use various tools in jewelry making.

This evening focused on Thea's program called Arts Reconstruction, where string classes and instructors are provided to elementary, middle and high schools in central Arkansas and professional development training is provided for visual arts teachers to learn new techniques for their classrooms.

Arts Reconstruction partners with cultural institutions, such as the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and arts organizations to provide new arts programs and amplify existing programs in Arkansas schools.
