A Mabelvale man reportedly fired 11 shots at Little Rock police officers who had gone to his residence on a welfare check call.

Little Rock police officers arrived at the Orchard Cove home of Jason Epperson, 46, after someone in the residence called for an ambulance, according to a police report. Epperson told officers that they should leave and that he "just wanted an ambulance so he could go to the hospital," the report said.

Epperson then reportedly went into his house, closed the door and fired 11 shots through his front entrance toward the officers. Officers said in their report that if any of them had attempted to follow Epperson into the residence, they would likely have been wounded. One of the bullets, reports said, struck a nearby residence.

Multiple patrol units and a tactical team arrived at the house and eventually coaxed Epperson into exiting and dropping his handgun on the ground, police documents state.

Officers arrested Epperson on charges of criminal mischief and two charges of felony aggravated assault on an employee of a correctional facility. Epperson was in the Pulaski County jail with no bail set Wednesday afternoon.
