WALK ON THE WILD SIDE

Zoo animals on the road to entertain gallerygoers

Things got a little bit wild July 6 at first Friday Gallery Walk in Hot Springs when Little Rock Zoo handlers took a few animals to Gallery Central.

Along with the educational animals, paintings by a variety of zoo animals were on display at Gallery Walk Gone Wild!, a fundraiser for the Arkansas Chapter of American Association of Zookeepers. Gallerygoers enjoyed wine and appetizers as they viewed the art and bid on the ones created by the animals.

Animal artists included Babe, an elephant that created a patriotic flag painting by blowing nontoxic paint through a tube onto a stenciled canvas, Red River hogs, a giant anteater, prairie dogs and a jaguar.

Money raised by selling the paintings benefits the Arkansas chapter -- which provides training and continuing education for the zookeepers and also assists with conservation efforts for wild animals.
