The over-21 crowd played with liquid nitrogen, shot cannons and melted aluminum -- all in the name of science June 28 at the Museum of Discovery's monthly adults-only event Science After Dark. This month's theme -- Dangerous Science.
The adults had the run of the museum and its regular hands-on science exhibits -- and could also participate in special activities planned just for the evening. They included making and shooting canister cannons, seeing how different items reacted to being microwaved, knife-throwing and making artwork with gunpowder and fireworks.
Less dangerous activities included learning about bees from Heifer Ranch by watching the live insects -- kept safely in a special glass display -- as they capped honeycombs; trying on different uniforms and accessories from the Old State House Museum that an Army soldier from World War I might have worn; and watching a "Sparks and Arcs" demonstration from Entergy about the dangers of downed power lines.
