FAYETTEVILLE -- A resort renting vintage campers to vacationers will open soon, said Laura and Zack Kraus, owners of Flamingo Springs Trailer Resort.

The Washington County Planning Board approved the final development request for the getaway location Thursday. The move paves the way for the Krauses to start renting out their facilities commercially in the next week or so.

The planning process for the resort is finished pending signatures and paperwork, Planning Director Nathan Crouch said.

The resort has six trailers from the 1950s through the 1970s on about 20 acres at 15474 Greasy Valley Road in Prairie Grove. The couple spent more than two years remodeling the old campers and designing themes for each one. Themes include western, Christmas and the TV show "Friends."

County planning staff and the Krauses have worked to get the resort going for about a year. The idea for an RV resort was so new in Washington County it took a long time to get the project through the planning process, Laura Kraus said.

The couple also lives on the same property.

The board gave permission for items including a hot tub, pool, clubhouse and improved driveway, county records show. The resort's plan also leaves open the option to expand the facility.

Laura Kraus said only friends have stayed in the RVs so far, but reservations should pick up, especially during football season, Zack Kraus said. At least one person has booked the resort for July 4, Laura Kraus said.
