FAYETTEVILLE -- A man was sentenced to federal prison Thursday for selling methamphetamine.

Cornelius Cox, 33, of Fayetteville, was sentenced to 10 years followed by three years of supervised release and was ordered to pay a $2,400 fine on one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

In late July through early August, the 4th Judicial District Drug Task Force made several meth purchases from Cox, according to court documents.

Cox was arrested Aug. 12. Detectives found more than 500 grams of a mixture that contained meth during a search of his car. Detectives also found two sets of digital scales. During a subsequent search of his home, detectives found a loaded Ruger pistol as well as scales and baggies.

Cox was indicted in September and pleaded guilty in March.

U.S. District Judge Timothy Brooks presided over the sentencing hearing.
