Crash hurts 2 kids; suspect arrested

Authorities arrested a central Arkansas driver who reportedly crashed into a parked ambulance, injuring two children in her vehicle.

Valencia Coleman, 37, of Sherwood was taken into custody at 3 a.m. Friday on two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor, one count of reckless driving and one count of first-degree driving while intoxicated, according to a report from the Pulaski County sheriff's office.

Authorities said they found her behind the wheel of a vehicle that had collided with an ambulance that had its "emergency equipment operating" and was parked near Interstate 30 at Broadway in North Little Rock.

Two children, whose names and ages were not released, were injured in the wreck, according to the report.

Coleman reportedly smelled of alcohol but refused to take a breathalyzer test. The report notes she told authorities she had been drinking earlier.

Online records showed she remained at the Pulaski County jail Friday night, and no bail had been set. Coleman is to appear in court Aug. 21.

Vehicle test drive ends with its theft

A 32-year-old North Little Rock man said his car was stolen Thursday by two people he allowed to test-drive the vehicle, according to a Little Rock police report.

The victim told authorities that a woman contacted him after seeing his Facebook ad about selling his 2013 Hyundai Elantra. The North Little Rock resident met with her and another person Thursday morning in the 9800 block of Little Rock's Chicot Road so she could see the car in person, the report states.

During a test drive, the three reportedly traveled to a nearby bank, but the 32-year-old said he didn't withdraw any money because the would-be buyer was "acting suspicious."

Police said the woman told the victim she had a gun and was going to take the vehicle. She added that she would get her brother to shoot the 32-year-old, the report states.

The North Little Rock man told officers he jumped out of the car as it was traveling on Chicot Road because he was "afraid for his life." Police noted he had several bruises and his shirt was dirty.

Authorities reportedly later found the car in the 9900 block of Eva Lane.

No suspects were named and no arrests had been made at the time of the report.
