A 29-year-old man from Danville was fatally struck by a vehicle early Wednesday in Yell County, police said.

Shortly after 4 a.m., Gary W. Hickey was hit by an eastbound 2016 Ford on Arkansas 154 west of Centerville, according to an Arkansas State Police report. Investigators wrote that Hickey was "in the roadway," though it didn't indicate why he was there. He suffered fatal injuries. No one else was listed as being hurt.

Conditions at the time were said to be clear and dry.

At least 237 people have died in traffic crashes in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
