Kiefer Sutherland, star of '24,' to perform with band at El Dorado Film Festival

In coordination with the fifth annual El Dorado Film Festival, Kiefer Sutherland will bring his band, Reckless Tour, to El Dorado this summer.

Sutherland is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Jack Bauer in the TV series 24 and most recently played Thomas Kirkman in Designated Survivor, which was canceled in May after two seasons. Sutherland has also been in many films during his 35 years in acting, including Stand By Me, Lost Boys and The Three Musketeers.

According to a release from the Murphy Arts District, Sutherland will perform at the Griffin Music Hall on Aug. 3, the same weekend as the film festival. Sutherland “has proven himself to be an authentic guitarist and vocalist,” the release stated, noting that he has played more than 120 shows, including performances on the Grand Ole Opry, Stagecoach and Glastonbury Festival.

“I couldn’t have imagined the depth with which I have fallen in love with touring. To have the opportunity to convey intimate, personal stories to an audience, for me, has proven to be priceless,” Sutherland said in the release.

Sutherland’s Reckless Tour concert will be at 9 p.m. Aug. 3, with doors opening at 7 p.m. and an opening act at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 until the day of the show, when they increase to $35.

The concert coincides with the annual El Dorado Film Festival, which will be held Aug. 2-5. The bulk of the films will be shown at the South Arkansas Arts Center, 110 E. 5th St., but the program Aug. 2 will be shown at Stars Cinema, 2620 W. Hillsboro St.

For last year’s festival, the film Last Flag Flying was shown in its southeast premier on the first day of the festival. According to the release, because of last year’s successful debut, the “El Dorado Film Festival has been given exclusive first showing rights” of Indivisible, which will be nationally released in October, to be screened at Stars Cinema on Aug. 2. Indivisible is based on the true story of U.S. Army Chaplain Darren Turner, who, after a deployment to Iraq, faces a crisis that challenges both his marriage and his faith.

Tickets for the festival are $35 for a three-day pass. A $100 VIP ticket is also available for all three days and also includes the awards brunch Aug. 5, the concert by Kiefer Sutherland and an Aug. 2 performance by Casey James in the Griffin Restaurant.

James, an American Idol finalist, will perform at Thursday Night Live in the Griffin Restaurant at 8 p.m. Aug. 2. Unlike typical Thursday Night Live performances, attendees will need to purchase tickets, which are $10.
