YEAR OF THE WOMAN

Opening the doors

The Rev. Betsy Singleton Snyder honored by Women & Children First

The Rev. Betsy Singleton Snyder was honored Jan. 20 as the Woman of the Year by Women & Children First.

Singleton Snyder is the 11th woman to receive the honor. (In 2016, the organization honored four men.) After accepting the award, she told the 500 guests that her mother was a survivor of domestic violence. Women & Children First provides crisis intervention, safe shelter, social and legal advocacy and support services to women and children who are survivors of domestic violence.

"It's about changing the world and opening the doors that have been locked," Singleton Snyder said of the organization. She added that the "bond of love is what holds people together."

Rick Fleetwood was honored with the Peacekeeper Award.

Natalie and Win Rockefeller and Tiffany and Daniel Robinson were the co-chairs of the Woman of the Year Gala.

The evening began with a VIP reception on the first floor of the Marriott.

The party moved upstairs to the Grand Ballroom for four-course dinner with a Latin/Spanish twist that included Pollo Empanizado, Chicken Milanese and Scallop Nopales. Dessert was a lemon almond cake that was covered in Cheerios in honor of Singleton Snyder's book Stepping on Cheerios.

In attendance were Singleton Snyder's four young sons, Penn and triplets Aubrey, Sullivan and Wyatt, along with husband and father Vic Snyder. Their mother noted that the boys were up way past bedtime.
