North Little Rock police investigate a fatal shooting in the area of East 14th and Pine streets Monday, Jan. 22, 2018.

A robbery suspect was fatally shot in North Little Rock on Monday night, police said.

Officers were called to the intersection of East 14th and Pine streets around 8:02 p.m. for a report of an aggravated robbery, according to North Little Rock police spokesman Sgt. Brian Dedrick.

Before getting to the scene, police received an update that a person had been shot, he said. Police arrived in the area and found a man dead by a building near the corner of North Locust and East 14th streets.

Dedrick said it appears that the robber and his victim got into a tussle over a gun near the intersection of East 14th and Pine streets. The gun went off during the altercation, he said, fatally hitting the robber, who then ran and was found almost a block away. The man shot was not taken to a hospital, he said.

Dedrick said it is unclear whom the gun belonged to, and he didn't identify the people involved in the shooting.

He reported Monday night that police were talking to several witnesses. Dedrick said the robbery victim was not hurt and police would be talking to him.
