State wrecks end in 2 drivers' deaths

At least two people died in separate accidents in recent days.

A young driver was killed after she crossed into oncoming traffic on an Arkansas highway and hit a tractor-trailer, according to the Arkansas State Police.

The crash happened around 2:05 p.m. Sunday on U.S. 62 east of Corning, authorities said in a preliminary report.

The driver, a minor whose identity was not released, was traveling west on the highway in a 2011 GMC Sierra when she crossed the centerline into the path of an eastbound tractor-trailer, according to authorities.

She was killed in the crash. Police said another person was injured, though that individual was not named in the report.

Travel conditions at the time were described as cloudy and wet.

A Northwest Arkansas man died after the car he was driving traveled off a bridge landing and was submerged in water, police said.

The crash happened around 10:50 p.m. Thursday as Dustin W. Dillard, 30, of Rogers tried to merge onto Riviera Road from Medical Center Parkway in Bentonville.

Dillard pulled the emergency brake on a 1999 Audi A6, causing the vehicle to slide out of control off the side of a bridge landing, according to a state police report.

Police said the car landed on its roof and was submerged in water.

Dillard died as a result of the crash, according to authorities. No other injuries were reported.

Travel conditions at the time were said to be clear and cold.
