Har-Ber bounces back with overtime win

Lady Wildcats earn first 7A-West victory

SPRINGDALE -- Springdale Har-Ber bounced back from its first 7A-West loss and remained in a first-place tie in the league thanks to a hard-fought 79-77 overtime win over Van Buren on Tuesday night in Wildcat Arena.

Senior Tylor Perry scored off a drive with 1 minute, 10 seconds left in overtime to give the Wildcats the lead for good and they held on, after trailing by as many as 10 in the second half.

Perry poured in a game-high 25 points, including 18 in the fourth quarter and overtime to help Har-Ber (15-4, 4-1 7A-West) turn back a huge effort from the Pointers.

Har-Ber coach Scott Bowlin was pleased with how his team came together in the second half, after losing a lead late Friday night at Fayetteville.

"I think we gutted it out," Bowlin said. "It's something we talked about on Sunday. We know everybody's going to give us their best shot. Van Buren did that tonight and we were very fortunate to withstand it and win.

"The thing I'm proud of there is that was a team win right there. There was a lot of different guys who contributed in a lot of different ways."

Perry's layup gave Har-Ber a 78-77 lead, but Tyler Garrett drew a big offensive foul with 38.3 seconds left to give the Wildcats the ball back with the lead. Perry then made one of two free throws with 29.7 seconds left to pus the lead to two and Har-Ber withstood a Pointers miss at the end.

Austin Garrett added 14 points for the Wildcats. Tyler Garrett chipped in 16 despite sitting out the first quarter for disciplinary reasons.

Van Buren (10-8, 1-4) took an early lead behind 6-foot-8 K.J. Stewart. The Pointers led 32-26 at halftime and pushed the lead to 10 early in the third quarter. But Har-Ber's full-court pressure helped the Wildcats pull closer and trailed by only one heading into the fourth quarter.

Presley Kindrix led Van Buren with 21, while Jordan West and Stewart added 18 each.

Van Buren coach Austin Trembley said the turnovers Har-Ber forced that led to easy baskets on the other end helped get the Wildcats back into the game in the second half.

"Our guys are really down thinking about a missed shot or a missed free throw here or there," Trembley said. "A coach is thinking about the two times you didn't sprint back on defense. We talk about trying to be brilliant in the basics and for the most part, we had that mindset. But there was a couple times we didn't and a good team like that they'll make you pay for that."
