Parkview takes over late vs. Fair

6A/5A-4 BOYS

LR PARKVIEW 49, LR FAIR 48

Little Rock Parkview overcame a 41-38 deficit after three quarters and held on to knock off Little Rock Fair 49-48 on Friday at Ripley Arena.

The War Eagles (13-3, 3-2 6A/5A-4) rode the scoring of Mickael Foust to a three-point edge after three quarters, but scored only seven points in the final quarter to suffer their third loss of the season and second in conference play.

The Patriots (12-5, 3-1) did not score after taking a 49-46 lead with 2:14 left in the fourth quarter. Foust hit a field goal with 26.5 seconds left to narrow the edge to 49-48.

Parkview may have won the game, but Coach Al Flanigan was not pleased with the way his team played.

"We played that Cinderella defense, just let them drive whenever they were ready," he said. "We haven't played good defense all year."

Flanigan said he was concerned with the offense, pointing to a number of missed shots.

"We think we are all shooters," he said. "The three-point line was the worst thing that ever happened to basketball."

After a Parkview timeout with 17.3 left, the Patriots tried to move the ball down the floor, but Parkview's Ethan Henderson was fouled by Deaveon Banks with 8.4 seconds left and went to the free-throw line for two shots. He missed both, but Parkview got the rebound.

With 1.2 second left, Foust fouled Ahmarri Farr. Farr missed the first of a 1-and-1, but Fair grabbed the rebound and called a timeout with 0.2 seconds left on the clock. A long down-court pass was knocked away, and the Patriots had the victory.

Fair Coach Charlie Johnson said the two teams often play close games.

"A lot of time it does come down to the last-second shot or a bad pass," he said. "We've got to put this one behind us and get ready for the next one."

Foust had a game-high 22 points for Fair while Makalen Hanks chipped in with 11. Curtis White had 19 points for the Patriots, while Allen Flanigan and Henderson each had 9.
