60-year term given to killer of 2 brothers in Arkansas home

FORT SMITH -- Stanley Ambrose Mazurek was sentenced to 60 years in prison Wednesday after pleading guilty to the Jan. 2, 2017, shooting deaths of two brothers in rural Sebastian County.

Mazurek, 35, also pleaded guilty to separate burglary, theft and firearms charges for which he was given sentences of 30 and 40 years. Sebastian County Circuit Judge Michael Fitzhugh ordered the sentences to run concurrently, or to be served at the same time.

The family of the victims agreed to the state's plea agreement with Mazurek, according to court records.

Mazurek was accused of killing Roger Allen Woods, 48, and Bradley Scott Woods, 32. A family member called the Sebastian County sheriff's office about 8 a.m. Jan. 2, 2017, after finding their bodies in their home in the 9500 block of Arkansas 10, about 15 miles southeast of Fort Smith.

A neighbor also reported a vehicle was taken from the residence. An Arkansas State Police trooper in Fort Smith spotted the vehicle, stopped it and arrested Mazurek.

Mazurek confessed to killing the brothers during questioning by sheriff's investigators.

He had been scheduled to go on trial in May, according to court records.
