FARMINGTON -- Alma used its inside game to overpower Farmington.
Center Kade Wood scored 18 points to lead Alma to a 56-44 victory over Farmington Tuesday at Cardinal Arena. Alma (10-6) displayed superior ball movement with many of its possessions ending in the hands of Wood, a 6-foot-6 senior center. Wood had 12 points at halftime and opened the fourth quarter with a dunk after a nice feed from Brayden Johnson.

Forward Garrison Jensen added 13 points for Alma, which led 42-34 after three quarters. The win was the seventh in the last eight games for Alma, which starts four seniors and a junior.
"We're an unselfish team and a team that's had a lot of balance this season," Alma coach Stan Flenor said. "We had a size advantage and went inside and did what we needed to do."
Farmington did most of its damage on the perimeter, but the Cardinals did not have enough success to seriously challenge the Airedales. Payton Maxwell scored 13 points for Farmington (6-11), which made six of the game's nine 3-pointers.
Wood dominated inside in the first half to help Alma to a 31-20 lead. Farmington got to within 25-20 after a 3-pointer by Skyler Montez. But the Airedales continued to push the ball inside to Wood, who scored on consecutive bank shots to end the first half.

Sophomore Aubrey Culpepper made a 3-pointer to break a tie and help Farmington to victory over Alma.
Culpepper took a pass with under two minutes to play and quickly put up a shot from the right wing after Sierra Bailey tied the game for Alma. It was the only basket in the fourth quarter for Farmington (15-3), which made six consecutive free throws in the final seconds to secure the victory.
"Aubdrey can really shoot the basketball," Farmington coach Brad Johnson said. "She's fearless and that's why she's playing as a 10th grader."
Makenna Vanzant scored 17 points for Farmington while Bailey finished with 11 to lead Alma (6-12). Six players contributed points in the first half to help Farmington to a 25-16 lead. Alma outscored Farmington 12-7 in the third quarter and tied the game in the fourth quarter before Culpepper put the Lady Cardinals ahead for good.
